TCM links up with community website providerTCM links up with community website provider
Saturday, 18th August 2001

THOMAS CROSBIE MEDIA (TCM), the online publishing company within Thomas Crosbie Holdings Limited, has reached agreement with Webtrade Communications Ltd to provide a live local, national and international news and sports editorial service to the 45 community based-sites operated by Webtrade.
Minister for Agriculture Joe Walsh officially launched the first site, WestCorkLive.com, last night in Rosscarbery.

The sites are targeted at communities throughout the country and will operate under the umbrella of www.irishguidelive.com.

Webtrade Communications was formed in February 2001 by Richard Coffey and Jack Donaghy, with the concept of providing a complete local guide and information bureau for Ireland. Mr Coffey said he was thrilled with the involvement and support of TCM.

According to Mr Coffey, the live breaking news service supplied by TCM will provide a tremendous facility for each site, because all news is relevant at local level and this will encourage people to return to each respective site.

The information provided by TCM means the site is updated minute by minute with breaking news.

All charities, clubs and sports organisations are put up on the sites free of charge and there is an events category, listing all the various events and festivals taking place in the region.

Chief operations officer at TCM Angela Crowley said she was delighted TCM, which also provides the Threetext service for TV3, was selected as content provider based on a growing reputation for excellent live news coverage and high quality customer service.

The first outing of this community website concept was in Dublin in 1998 by Mr Donaghy of Webtrade and was initially geared towards communities in the capital.

Mr Coffey, originally from Bantry in west Cork and managing director of Webtrade Communications, approached Mr Donaghy with the idea of putting together a similar website for the entire west Cork region.
