Wind turbine nearing completionWind turbine nearing completion
Wednesday, 18th January 2006

The £18m wind warm in Callagheen townland, four miles from Derrygonnelly, is almost complete and is expected to give a generating capacity sufficient for almost thirteen thousand homes. The site on the Derrygonnell-Belleek road from Lough Navar Forest was chosen from three prospective sites, at Callagheen, Garrane and Carricknabrattoge, out of a total of six visited by Wind Farm Developments Ltd. Since Callagheen has a very low density of breeding birds and there is little significant heather cover, it was deemed the most appropriate site for the wind farm.
