The silent county
Monday, 7th February 2005

Though the Department of Environment's Environment and Heritage Service launched a noise awareness campaign this week to clamp down on persistent offenders it appears that Fermanagh won't be requiring their services. Even though the DOE estimate that one in four people in the UK suffer from noise disturbance a survey has found that Fermanagh is one of the quietist places to live - apart from the occasional noise made by animals or people. Fermanagh District Council say noise is not a huge problem in the area, but this is not the experience of other areas in Northern Ireland - with more than 8,000 complaints being made to district councils about noise from loud music and television, parties and barking dogs.
