£200,000 goods seizure in Co. Fermanagh£200,000 goods seizure in Co. Fermanagh
Thursday, 18th November 2004

Around £200,00 worth of goods have been uncovered by the police in one of their biggest ever seizures recovered by the PSNI's Organised Crime unit.

The seizure in County Fermanagh is thought to be one of the most valuable by the police in recent years.

The haul included three farm tractors, which were found stored in two containers in a quarry near Derrylin.

The tractors are so new that some parts were still wrapped in the manufacturers` plastic.

None appears to have been used.

Preliminary police enquiries have revealed that one of the tractors was stolen in Scotland.

Police believe an organised network of criminals is involved in a lucrative trade in plant and machinery between GB and Ireland.

Last year plant theft in Northern Ireland alone was valued in excess of £1.7 million.

Enquiries are continuing to determine where the items may have been destined.
