Oxfam Music Month - March 2004Oxfam Music Month - March 2004
Monday, 1st March 2004

This coming March Oxfam Ireland will be running a special music promotion in most of its 41 shops around Ireland. Our overall aim is to raise €50,000 for our work overseas from sales of music during the month. We aim to do this by attracting donations of VINYL RECORDS and CDs during February and running special musical promotions and events in our shops throughout March.

The purpose of Oxfam Music Month is of course to raise more money to overcome poverty and suffering. We also want to raise the profile of music in Oxfam shops, and let people know that they can come to Oxfam not just for CDs and Videos at bargain prices, but for rare and collectible records too. Donated records and CDs are becoming an increasingly important source of income for many of our shops, and during 2004 we intend to launch dedicated music sections in many of our shops which will sell only music related items, including collectible vinyl, CDs, sheet music, instruments, books etc. We will also have a training programme for staff and volunteers to enable them to assess and price music donations, and recognise valuable items.

We would welcome your support in achieving our target of €50,000 from music sales during March. To this end we are asking if you would participate in this initiative by:

· running an on-air appeal for two weeks during February, asking listeners to take donations of music to their nearest participating Oxfam shop

· promoting the music activities of those shops in your area during March itself

· Donating any spare records or CDs that you may have in your library or archive.

We very much hope that you will be part of our campaign to raise €50,000 in March.

Please contact me if you would like further information or details of participating Oxfam shops.

Many thanks for your consideration
