Munster and Leinster Progress to European Cup Quarter Finals
Monday, 26th January 2009

Victories yesterday for both Irish provinces secured quarter-final places in the European Cup to be played in April.

Leinster once more made hard work of a weakened Edinburgh side, coming through 12-3 in the end, without scoring a try. Four first half Contepomi penalities were enough in the end and on a positive note, at least Leinster can say that they topped their group and are through to the next stages without playing anywhere near their best. Who knows, maybe a 2 month break and the finer weather to come will provide the much needed spark to set off the Leinster flair...hopefully. Leinster must now travel to Harlequins for their quarter final.

Munster on the other hand secured a home quarter final draw by comfortably beating Montauban 39-13 with 5 tries and a bonus point, in their weather delayed match in the South of France. Their reward is a tough match against the in-form Ospreys.

The draw in full for the quarter-finals, to be played on the weekend of April 10/11/12, are:

Cardiff Blues v Toulouse

Munster v Ospreys

Harlequins v Leinster

Leicester Tigers v Bath Rugby

Connacht also secured a quarter-final place in the Challenge cup by beating Dax in Galway on Friday, 49-3. They will play Northampton away on the weekend of April 10th.
