Ireland collapse against England
Saturday, 15th March 2008

Ireland lost to England for the first time since 2003 as tries from Paul Sackey, Mathew Tait and Jamie Noon, allied to an impressive display from 18-point out-half Danny Cipriani, saw Eddie O'Sullivan's side overpowered at Twickenham.

Brian Ashton: "I thought the team played exceptionally well and that performance was one of the best England performances for a long while in this tournament. We went out on the field and put into operation what we'd said we would do for the full game."

Eddie O'Sullivan: "On the day the better team won, the final score was a reasonable reflection of their dominance. We didn't have the cohesion that England had in midfield. That was the difference between the teams."

Philip Browne said: "The IRFU share in the disappointment with the outcome of this year's RBS Six Nations championship from an Irish perspective and will be undertaking a detailed review of our performance.

"Our objective in this, as always, will be to ensure the Irish rugby team has in place the optimal structures to allow it to perform at the highest international levels into the future."
