Kerry On The Double
Sunday, 16th September 2007

Well they've done it again ! 35 titles in 105 years and the first back to back double since Cork in 1990. And who says they won't do the treble next year...

Kerry always looked likely to win yesterday, but the ease in which they pulled away in the second half was startling. Cork really didn't help themselves by giving away 2 really soft goals to Kieran 'Star' Donaghy shortly after half time - goals that killed off any flickering flames of hope that remained after going in 3 points down at half time. Kerry went on to win by 3-13 to 1-9, a scoreline that will psychologically put Cork a step back.

It was a very disappointing end to an average year in the Championship, what a pity the draw didn't favour a Dublin vs Kerry final, where a repeat of their semi-final match would have probably been a more fitting finale to the season. That was not be however and Cork cannot be blamed for that, but the manner of their capitulation yesterday will raise many questions.

But all of that is for another day, today belonged to Kerry, and rightfully so. The best footballing team won, the most physical team won, the most experienced team won and the most intelligent team won.

They could be talking about this Kerry squad for years - Donaghy, Gooch, Galvin, MF Russell, The O' Se's, the O'Sullivan's, Murphy, Reidy, O'Mahony, Young, Brosnan, Sheehan, Griffin, Lyons - a class apart !
