'Park, Stay and Fly' - A New Irish Trend
Friday, 26th October 2007

First we had Low Cost Airlines and the Internet, now we have new Low Cost Hotels surrounding Dublin Airport. These have now combined to create ‘Park, Stay & Fly’ – Ireland’s new travel phenomenon.

With the costs of parking at Dublin Airport still rising and the large increase in numbers of beds available at Dublin Airport Hotels, the resulting trend was almost inevitable. It is now commonplace to stay at an airport hotel the night before your flight, leave the car at the hotel for up to two weeks while you are away and take a complimentary shuttle bus from the hotel to the airport. All resulting in convenient, stress free travel and the ideal way to start your holiday!

Jack Donaghy, Managing Director of one of Ireland’s leading Hotel Booking Companies, has seen bookings more than treble in the last year on its website, where full details of all hotels and their parking costs are displayed. “With very high quality hotel rooms for less than €100 and €50 for a week’s parking, a lot of people, including families, are taking the stress out of travelling abroad by staying at Airport Hotels.”

Roomex surveyed all Dublin Airport Hotels this week and it is clear that the trend is catching on with 33% of people on average availing of Stay, Park and Fly facilities and the average parking time of between 4 and 7 days.
