Masters of Tradition Festival 2006Masters of Tradition Festival 2006
Wednesday, 16th August 2006

The heart of traditional music in the heart of West Cork.

Booking has now opened for the 2006 Masters of Tradition Festival, which takes place in Bantry, West Cork from 16 – 20 August.

Bantry House will be throwing open its doors to some over the very best music-makers in the land, including Clare-born fiddler Martin Hayes, sean-nos singer Iarla Ó’Lionáird, flute player Matt Malloy of The Chieftains and leading guitarist Steve Cooney. Highly respected Cork-born accordionist Jackie Daly and fiddlers Peadar O’Loughlin and John Carty will be joined by banjo player Gerry O’Connor, uillean piper Ronan Browne and the soulful singer Karan Casey. Classical violinist Ioana Petcu-Colan, founder member of the Callino Quartet, will take to the stage with Martin Hayes and guitarist Dennis Cahill for an opening concert with a difference.

The brochure is now available for this special musical experience. Anyone interested in celebrating the heart of traditional Irish music should contact West Cork Music on 027 52788 or Lo Call 1850 788 789 to book their tickets. Full details are available on www.westcorkmusic.ie

With five concerts, four late night sessions, a young musician performance and traditional workshops for aspiring young musicians, the festival packs in as many elements of the tradition as possible. The concerts aim to give a real insight into the musical journeys that these musicians, and the tunes that they play, have taken over the years.

RTE Lyric fm will record all concerts for later broadcast. West Cork Music is supported by RTĒ and the Arts Council.
